Now Hiring

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Matthew 9:37 (NKJV)

The past couple of years have left very few things in the world unscathed. The world we live in today is quite different from the one in which we previously lived. Everything you can imagine has been affected in some way, including the labor force. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, millions of workers have resigned for various reasons, resulting in “The Great Resignation.” Today, there are few establishments that don’t bear the sign “Now Hiring,” and this particular movement has many employers in a bind and desperate for dependable workers.

Yet, this is not the only labor shortage amongst us. Just as the natural labor force is in need of workers, so is the kingdom of God.

Matthew 9:35-38 states, Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease amongst the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scatted, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.

Do you see the parallel in this natural and spiritual matter? In both situations, there is a need for workers. Here we have Jesus, our example, along with His disciples, going about His Father’s business teaching and healing the people when He notices the immense need of the people both physical and spiritual. As He and the disciples continued to interact with the people, He saw that they were wandering and wearied by life. This moved Him to compassion, and this is when He declared to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.” Then He asked them to pray that the Lord would send out more laborers to gather His harvest.

If you observe your everyday sphere of influence, you too will discover just as Jesus did that you are surrounded by multitudes of people who are lost, hurting, and bewildered by life. These people need your compassion, and Jesus wants to spiritually employ you.

There are many openings in the kingdom of God, and He wants you to apply with your faith today. You are the perfect candidate.  There’s on-the-job training and there’s no experience required. All you need to do is be available for God to work through you. He wants to use your gifts, resources, and time to make an eternal difference in someone else’s life. So without any delay please apply today. Jesus is “Now Hiring.”

Lord, the harvest is plentiful and more than ever people need your provision. Lord, please prick the hearts of your servants to be moved with the same compassion as you have for people. And send out more laborers to meet the needs of the multitudes for they are growing  greater and greater each day. Lord, thank you in advance for all the new workers who will join your labor force to gather your harvest. In Jesus’ name, amen.
